Mold is a town in Flintshire, on the banks of the River Alyn in North Wales. The town developed around Mold Castle, which was built in circa 1140, and the earthwork remains of which can still seen. Attractions in Mold include the 15th century parish church of St Mary's, and a small museum and regional arts centre— the Clwyd Theatr Cymru.
The town's Bryn yr Ellyllon (or Goblins' Hill) was the site of the 1833 discovery of a unique Bronze Age golden cape, dating from 1900-1600 BC in the Bronze Age. Unfortunately the cape was destroyed by the workmen who found it, who broke it into pieces to divide among themselves. The cape has subsequently been restored and is now held at the British Museum in London.
This is a very popular destination for outdoor pursuits, with countless walks and mountaineering challenges, numerous fisheries, and a network of cycle trails. With ample shopping possibilities and a good selection of accommodation, restaurants, and traditional pubs, a holiday in Flint is sure to be a break to remember.
Flintshire offers a variety of cultural attractions and leisure activities, as well as a wealth of sites of historical importance, such as the nearby Flint Castle, which is a popular local attraction that was founded in 1277 by Edward I and was used by Shakespeare as the setting for Act III, Scene III in his play "Richard II".
