The large village of Milnthorpe in the picturesque Lakeland district of Cumbria, is an ancient village with limestone buildings set along narrow lanes. In medieval times this was a busy market town, granted its charter for a weekly market in 1334. The history of Milnthorpe includes being home to the well known Duralon Comb Company that was established here in the 18th century and the attractive George Wenster designed 19th century church of St. Thomas.
Milnthorpe’s ancient market continues weekly on Fridays and there is ample shopping and amenities, pubs and eateries. Visitor attractions and historic sites locally and nearby include; Levens Hall, famed for its topiary, the Lakeland Wildlife Oasis with its zoo and museum as well as the Heron Corn Mill and Museum of Papermaking housed in a restored, working 18th century water mill.
