Middlewich is a moderately sized market town in the historic county Cheshire, in North West England, near the City of Chester, and the affluent designer town of Winsford. This is a very ancient town that has been recorded as a settlement since at least the time of the Roman occupation. It grew in importance early, as a centre for the extraction and trade of salt; as well as for the production of Cheshire cheese, and silk. It lies on the confluence of the rivers Dane, Croco and Wheelock and is intersected by three canals: the Shropshire Union, the Trent and Mersey, and the Wardle.
In recent years, particular effort has been put into increasing tourist potential for the Middlewich, through events such as the annual folk and boat festival, and the Roman and Norman festivals. This is an area that offers numerous scenic walks, a network of canals and waterways, cobbled villages and countless listed buildings. The town is one of a trove of pleasant semi-rural towns and villages, which provide excellent holiday accommodation, countless pub-restaurants and varied entertainment, making this a very enjoyable location from which to explore the sites and attractions of Cheshire.
Popular attractions in the area include Chester Cathedral, Chester Zoo, Gulliver's World Theme Park, and the National Waterways Museums, to name only a few.
