Mere Green

Mere Green is an area of Four Oaks, Sutton Coldfield, Birmingham, England. It is a small commercial centre on the edge of Sutton Park. The area features a shopping area, which has a range of independent shops, along with national chain stores. Plans have been outlined for a major redevelopment of the Mere Green shopping area, which would involve the demolition of many of the smaller shops. The scheme by Spring Urban was approved on 8 August 2007. The development has been delayed by the recession and as of August 2009 work had not started. Mere Green Library and Community Centre offer classes in such subjects as yoga, art, book readings, free internet access, tennis and lawn green bowls. The area made the news in 1983 when an Italian called Renato Pagliari, then co-owner of the La Gondola restaurant in Mere Green, scored a No 1 hit single in the UK with a singer called Renato, entitled 'Save Your Love'.
