Melton Constable

The village of Melton Constable in the diverse county of Norfolk is an unusual sight in this part of the country, with terraced streets resembling those of northern towns rather than a village in rural Norfolk. It was the coming of the railways in the late 19th century that changed the look of this village forever. As many lines met here, a new town was created to accommodate railway workers and with workshops and a factory also created, Molton Constable experienced prosperity and a huge increase of population. The railways no longer come to Molton Constable and it is again a more tranquil place.

Melton Constable has ample amenities and shops although further choice is more abundant in nearby, more developed towns. There is picturesque scenery in the surrounding countryside and the lovely Melton Constable Park; designed by Capability Brown in 1764 with a church beneath the trees, a temple and various artistic follies. Another favourite with visitors is Melton Constable Hall, considered to be the finest example of the Christopher Wren house style.
