Meliden

The village of Meliden in Denbighshire, Wales is in a beautiful area of this region that is known to be the oldest inhabited part of Wales; as evidenced by the Pontnewydd Paleaolithic site that has revealed the remains of Neanderthals dating back more than 225,000 years ago. Meliden lies between Prestatyn and Dyserth, having grown and developed around the mining industry that has contributed so much to the area. The nearby lead mines and limestone quarries provided work and income for the people of the area, along with a rich heritage. The coming of the railways helped to grow the mining trade but have long since closed; leaving a wonderful public walkway where the lines once ran. Walkers as well as outdoor enthusiasts now enjoy the delights along this nature trail that is abundant with diverse flora, fauna and wildlife.

Meliden offers some amenities and is within easy reach of Prestatyn, Dyserth and other settlements offering additional choices for dining, shopping and leisure activities. As well as the wealth of natural beauty to be explored, there are opportunities to enjoy outdoor activities as well and Meliden even has its own nine hole golf course, which is actually split in half by the nature walk.
