Martock

The village of Martock in Somerset lies in a picturesque region at the edge of the Somerset Levels and within easy reach of many places of natural beauty including the Blackdown Hills, the Mendips, the Quantocks and Exmoor. The River Parrett is also nearby and is the location of the Parrett Iron Works, formerly known as Cary's Mill and mentioned in the Doomsday Book. The Parrett Works were taken over in the 19th century by George Parsons who produced sailcloth and manufactured a whole range of agricultural implements, steam engines and mass produced wagons and carts.

Martock offers ample amenities and shops as well as eateries and is home to a number of historic buildings and places of interest within the area including; the 13th century Treasurer's House built of hamstone, nearby Montacute House and the 18th century hamstone Market House on Church Street, a Grade II listed building that has been restored and reopened. Just in front of the Market House is the ‘Pinnacle’, Martock’s Market Cross, with a column dating back to 1741.
