Marlow is a town within the Wycombe district of south Buckinghamshire, in England. It enjoys a scenic location on the River Thames, neighbouring High Wycombe and Maidenhead, and within commuting distance of London.
Marlow is adjoined by the pretty villages of Marlow Bottom and Little Marlow, with Bourne End just by Little Marlow. Bisham Abbey is in Bispham on the opposite bank of the Thames, which can be reached via the impressive suspension bridge over the river, which was the prototype of the nearly identical but much larger Széchenyi Chain Bridge that spans the River Danube in Budapest. The area is well linked and offers good shopping prospects, a good choice of holiday accommodation as well as a number of well-regarded pubs and restaurants, all of which help to make this a particularly pleasant place from which to explore the historic county of Buckinghamshire.
Notable residents of Marlow have included literary giants such as Mary Shelley, the author of the classic horror novel Frankenstein, Percy Bysshe Shelley, T. S. Eliot and Jerome K. Jerome.
Popular attractions in the area include Wycombe Abbey, the Roald Dahl Museum and Story Centre, Ivinghoe Beacon, and the Chiltern Hills Area Of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
