Marchwiel

The village of Marchwiel lies within the Wrexham area in Wales, between the Welsh mountains and the lower Dee Valley and nearby the border with Cheshire in England. Visitors come to enjoy the beautiful surrounding countryside and the attractions of the area including several large country houses; Marchwiel Hall, Bryn-y-grog, Old Sontley and the lovely Erddig Hall with its beautifully maintained grounds. Erddig Hall was designed by Thomas Webb in the late 17th century for Joshua Edisbury, the high sheriff of Denbighshire.

 

Marchwiel is within two miles of North Wales' largest town, Wrexham, offering a vast choice of shops, restaurants and pubs as well as a host of visitor and cultural attractions and historic sites. In the village of Marchwiel is the church of St. Marcella that was built in 1778 and has a number of features including the stained-glass window showing the family tree of the Yorke family of Erddig and memorials to members of the Yorke family.
