The large, thriving town of Maidstone is in the county Kent, on the River Medway that runs right through the town centre and links Maidstone to Rochester and the Thames Estuary. Much of Maidstone’s prosperity arose from its location on the river that facilitated trade, transport and travel. Situated between Dover and London, Maidstone was a main route for pilgrimages; bringing with it, large influxes of people from outside the local area. The history here goes back to before the Stone Age and in the 19th century, the fossilised remains of a dinosaur were discovered here and are now displayed in the Natural History Museum in London.
With a thriving town centre surrounded by glorious Kentish countryside, Maidstone is the ideal destination for those looking for outdoor pursuits as well as all the amenities and attractions of a cosmopolitan town. History, culture, leisure and entertainment are found in the historic buildings, museums, art galleries, wonderful parks, shopping, dining and entertainment that is on offer here.
