The village of Maentwrog in Gwynedd, Wales is at the heart of the scenic Snowdonia National Park and alongside the River Dwyryd in Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Wonderful walks, breathtaking views of the Welsh countryside and the two waterfalls of Raven Falls and Rhaeadr Du nearby, make this a popular area with nature lovers, bird-watchers and outdoor enthusiasts. There is a legend here that tells of a giant known as Twrog who hurled a boulder from the top of a hill down into the settlement, destroying a pagan altar.
