Macclesfield is an English market town in Cheshire on the River Bollin, which is a tributary of the River Mersey. It neighbours Stockport, Buxton, and Chester, and is prettily situated between the Cheshire Plain and the Peak District National Park — scenery that many come to enjoy by way of the Macclesfield Canal.
The town was once the world's largest producer of finished silk and possesses a silk tapestry commemorating an event in 1745 where the then Prince, Charles Stuart was received into the town by a reluctant town mayor during an uprising.
Chester Cathedral, Chester Zoo, the National Waterways Museum, Tatton Park, Go Ape! - High Wire Forest Adventure and Beeston Castle are just a few of the major sites and attractions within the local area. With its attractive setting, and wealth of shops, amenities, pubs and accommodation, Macclesfield is that ideal base from which to explore England's vibrant North.
