Lutterworth is a large village in the entral English county of Leicestershire, England, neighbouring Rugby (which is in Warwickshire), and Leicester. The town grew as a coaching stage prior to the days of the railway, and still retains many of its former coaching inns, along with several half-timbered buildings dating back to the Tudor period in its colourful and vibrant town centre. It is in Lutterworth that the 14th century religious reformer Canon John Wyclif, who was Rector in Lutterworth's Parish Church of St Mary, is believed to have produced the first ever translation of the Bible from Latin into English. Other famous Lutterworth notables include Frank Whittle, inventor of the jet engine (a statue of the first jet plane, the Gloster E.28/39 stands is on display on a roundabout to the south of the town); and the architect, Joseph Hansom, who designed Lutterworth and Birmingham Town Halls and invented the horse-drawn Hansom cab.
