Low Ireby

The small hamlet of Ireby lies within the district of Allerdae, in the picturesque county of Cumbria and amidst the fells of the northern Lake District. The market cross here tells of a time when this village was a thriving market town. The market cross is believed to date back to the early 13th century when Ireby received its market charter. Just outside the village is the chancel of the 12th century Ireby Old Church, this is all that remains of the original church, although the stones were used to build the new Gothic style church of St. James during the early 19th century. Ireby is now a tranquil village where visitors come to enjoy the peaceful walks and diverse flora, fauna and wildlife of the area.

Ireby has two village halls and a pub but has few amenities, although there is plenty of shopping, dining and attractions in nearby, more developed towns. Ireby has a Music Festival each year that is growing into a popular event. Locally there is much for visitors to see, do and enjoy, with historic buildings, sites of interest and cultural as well as visitor attractions throughout the region.
