Louth is a market town within the East Lindsey district of Lincolnshire, England, within close proximity to the county town of Lincoln, and the county's second-largest town of Grimsby. It is known as the "capital of the Lincolnshire Wolds", due to its attractive and convenient location, which brought it prosperity as a market town, the markets of which still operate on the Wednesday, Friday and Saturday of each week, in addition to regular farmers markets. It is situated on the route of the ancient Barton Street trackway, where it crosses the River Lud.
The town centre is characterised by a predominance of 17th and 18th century buildings, as well as the spire of the tallest Anglican parish church in the United Kingdom. Louth offers an excellent vantage point from which to enjoy the sites and attractions of Lincolnshire, with good shopping prospects, various entertainment venues and a good choice of quality holiday accommodation. Popular attractions in the area include the National Fishing Heritage Centre in Grimsby, the Sealife Centre and Pleasure Island Theme Park at Cleethorpes, Waltham Windmill, Lincoln Castle, Lincoln Cathedral, Thornton Abbey, and Natureland Seal Sanctuary, to name only a handful.
