Looe

The port and coastal town of Looe in the scenic county of Cornwall is split by the River Looe into two parts; linked by a seven-arched Victorian bridge. An early wooden bridge was in place by the early 15th century but was burned down and replaced by the first stone bridge in 1436. The bridge we see today was opened in 1853, around the time that Looe had become a major port. Trade in tin, arsenic and granite brought prosperity and the fishing and boatbuilding industries were thriving too.

Looe attracts visitors throughout the year who come to enjoy the wide choice of wonderful outdoor activities offered in the area, including; yachting, sail boating, bathing and fishing. For wonderful walks you could do no better, with caves, coves and woodland trails to explore. There are ample amenities and shops, pubs and eateries as well as visitor and cultural attractions in and around the town. The museum offers exhibits and displays that tell the story of Looe from its heady days as a thriving seaport.
