Longridge

Longridge is a small town of under 8,000 people in the Ribble Valley of Lancashire, England. It is situated on the edge of the Longridge Fell, within the Forest of Bowland — an area of outstanding natural beauty — just above the River Ribble. Longridge developed as a mill town and stone quarry, and stone from the quarries of Longridge was used in the building Lancaster Town Hall and Liverpool Docks, as well as in several of the Roman buildings in the area.

Longridge has some unusual history as an ancient battleground and neighbours the the Roman town of Ribchester (Bremetennacum), where the ruins of some of the buildings belonging to the Roman fort can still be seen. The Battle of Preston also started in Longridge, which is where Cromwell fought Monarchist forces from Scotland.

There are a number of very popular walks in this scanic part of England, with close proximity to a number of attractions and sites of interest, including Pendle Hill, of the infamous Pendle Witch Trials.
