Llanerchymedd

The small village of Llannerch-y-medd in Anglesey, Wales lies close to the centre of this unspoilt island and nearby Anglesey's largest body of water, the Llyn Alaw Reservoir. Translated as ‘Lily Lake’, the man-made reservoir supplies drinking water to the northern half of the island and was created in 1966 on existing marshland.  The reservoir measures 4.3 kilometres long with a surface area of 3.6 km² and a depth of just 5.2 metres,  making it the largest body of water on the island. The area around the reservoir is popular with nature enthusiasts and bird-watchers who can enjoy the nature conservation facilities and way-marked walks.

 

Llannerch-y-medd offers few amenities but is in close proximity to more developed towns and villages that offer an excellent choice of shops, ample amenities, eateries and pubs. Like all the villages and towns of Anglesey, Llannerch-y-medd benefits from the abundance of heritage sites, museums, galleries, visitor and cultural attractions, including the fascinating Anglesey Sea Zoo, the Butterfly Palace and Historic Beaumaris with its castle. For those looking to enjoy outdoor activities, fishing, boating, walking, golfing, surfing and riding can all be enjoyed on Anglesey and Llannerch-y-medd is a wonderful base from which to explore this popular destination.
