Llanberis

The village of Llanberis in Gwynedd, Wales is in an idyllic location in the Snowdonia Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty on the banks of Llyn Padarn, a glacially formed lake two miles long and at its deepest point, 94 feet deep. The area is popular for those who enjoy outdoor activities including walking, mountaineering, climbing, mountain biking, pony trekking, water sports and even Scuba Diving that can be done at the Vivian Diving Centre. Each year in July, racers in the Snowdon Race, an international fell race to the summit of Snowdon, end their race in Llanberis.

Llanberis, like many of the settlements in the area, developed as a result of the proximity of the slate quarries but it is now tourism that nourishes the economy. There are plenty of specialist shops, eateries, amenities and pubs here in the village and a wealth of historic and attractions locally, including; the ruins of the 13th century Dolbadarn Castle above the town that was famously painted by Richard Wilson and J.M.W. Turner, the Snowdon Mountain Railway, the National Slate Museum, the Llanberis Lake Railway, sightseeing boats, underground tours and a magnificent waterfall.
