The picturesque coastal town of Littlehampton in the county of West Sussex has two popular beaches, a bustling marina and harbour and incredible architecture. This seaside resort lies on the River Arun in an area that was first settled in prehistoric and then in Roman times. It is believed that a fishing community grew up around the coast before being given to the Abbey of St. Martin de Seez in Normandy, who owned the town up until around 1400. It was during the 18th century that Littlehampton went from a simple fishing community to a seaside resort that attracted Lord Byron, Samuel Taylor Coleridge, Percy Bysshe Shelley and John Constable with its charm. The coming of the railways in the 19th century assured its prosperity and continuation as a holiday destination.
Throughout the year, Littlehampton hosts visitors who come for the windsurfing, canoeing, kite surfing and jet-skiing as well as fishing, boating, scuba diving and water skiing on its river and sea. A pretty promenade and riverside walks coupled with seaside attractions, great shopping, plenty of eateries and pubs as well as cultural attractions offer plenty to see, do and enjoy for everybody.
