Lingfield is a charming village in the county of Surrey and is known for its horse racing course, Lingfield Park. At the heart of this small village is the cross and village cage, built in 1773 and last used in 1882 to hold a poacher. Lingfield is also home to the Church of St. Peter and St. Paul, the only large one of the Perpendicular style in Surrey. The original 14th century tower remains and it is here that you will find the finest collection of brasses in Surrey. The area around the church has been designated a conservation area and includes many beautifully preserved buildings that date back to the 16th to 18th centuries. Much of the local history can be found at Haxsted Mill. The double-fronted mill was built in two halves, the first around 1580 and the other in 1794 and is now both a working watermill and a museum.
With pleasant walks along the River Eden, a pretty village centre and lovely scenery, Lingfield is a lovely place for visitors; many of whom come of course for the racing or golf. Lingfield’s famous racecourse hosts race days every month, including Turf, National Hunt, all-weather racing and harness racing. Set within the grounds of the racecourse is a challenging 18 hole golf course. Established in 1987, the golf course has a reputation for its excellent facilities and superb golf, earning it an award.
