Lifton

The village of Lifton in the attractive county of Devon is one of the oldest settlements in the region to be founded by the Saxons. The geography here was of considerable strategic importance as Lifton is at the point where the Rivers Wolf and Lyd meet, close to the River Tamar and the Cornish border. The economy here was based on agriculture and mining but Lifton was to see the greatest growth and development in the Victorian era.

Lifton offers visitors adequate amenities, shops, eateries and pubs as well as historic sites like St. Mary’s Church that has stood here since here since Norman times, although the church we see today is a reflection of the work done on it in the 15th century and The Arundell Arms, a well known fishing hotel that used to serve as a coaching inn and was formerly known as ‘The White Horse’. Within this region are a host of cultural and visitor attractions as well as places of interest and wonderful walks along the river banks and through the diverse landscape that rewards with abundant flora fauna and wildlife.
