The town of Lennoxtown in Dunbartonshire, Scotland lies in a picturesque setting at the base of the magnificent Campsie Fells range of hills that reach east to west, from Denny Muir to Dumgoyne in East Dunbartonshire. Lennoxtown has been a thriving mill town with the busy Lennox Mill grinding the corn for tenants of the Woodhead estate and there were several corn mills within the area. In the late 18th century, Lennoxtown saw the establishment of the calico printing works adjacent to the old corn mill. Calico soon became a successful industry here and Lennoxtown grew with the provision of homes for cotton printing workers. The importance of the town is reflected in the building of the Roman Catholic Church in 1846 that is one of the earliest post-Reformation Catholic churches in Scotland.
