Leigh

Leigh is a town in northern England near to Wigan and Manchester on the edge of the Chat Moss peat bog, which is now a European Union Special Area of Conservation. The town is a meeting point for the Bridgewater Canal and the Leigh Branch of the Leeds and Liverpool Canal, along which many listed buildings can be seen as remnants of the area's heyday in the textiles industry. Coal mining, Leigh Cheese production and agriculture have also each been key industries of the town, though which the prosperity of the town was established.

Many of the town centre buildings of Leigh — including the "Boar's Head" Public House — are built of red Ruabon or Accrington bricks, many of which feature gables and terracotta ornamentation, making Leigh a pleasant place to visit and an excellent vantage point from which to explore the surrounding towns and villages of rural England, with ease of access to all the major cities of the north.
