The charming town of Launceston in the scenic county of Cornwall lies at the border with Devon and between the moors of Bodmin and Dartmoor. This traditional market town with its Georgian houses, impressive church, narrow streets and pretty market square is popular with residents and visitors alike. As you approach Launceston you will encounter a steep hill to the town centre that is dominated by the remains of the majestic Norman castle. Work on this Norman motte and bailey castle began soon after the Norman Conquest in the late 11th century although it was during the 13th century that the brother of Henry VIII, the Earl of Cornwall began to rebuild the castle in stone.
The town centre of Launceston offers delightful shops, eateries, pubs and amenities along narrow streets amidst architecture of all styles and ages; with examples of Tudor, Georgian and Gothic Victorian. The Georgian Lawrence House houses a fascinating museum that tells the story of Launceston with exhibits and displays covering prehistoric times to the present day.
