Kirkham, is a small town of approximate 8,000 inhabitants on the Fylde peninsula in Lancashire, England, conveniently situated midway between Blackpool and Preston. Carr Hill, on which the town was founded by the Saxons, was originally a Roman fort and its name is a combination of the Danish "kirk" for church, and the Saxon "ham" for settlement. The town is very rural by tradition and and is known for being formerly a key producer of sailcloth. "The Last Loom" of Kirkham is on permanent display on the lower part of Station Road.
Although quite a sleepy town, Kirkham is an excellent vantage point from which to enjoy both rural and urban Lancastrian attractions, with the popular tourist resort and theme park of Blackpool being only a few miles away, in addition to countless other places to visit to suit everyone from the retired fishing enthusiast, to explorers on barge holidays, ramblers and some good old fashioned family fun.
