Kirkcolm is a village in the council area of Dumfries and Galloway, in south-west Scotland. It is situated at the northern end of the Rhins of Galloway, overlooking the Loch Ryan, and neighbouring the town of Stranraer. It was established as a burgh of barony in 1613, back when it was known as Stewarton. The village was rebuilt in the 18th century to create a better street layout. The nearby Balsarroch House, which is now ruined, was the birthplace of polar explorer Sir John Ross.
Popular attractions in the area include Corsewall Lighthouse, Wig Bay & The Scar, Glenluce Abbey, the Logan Botanic Garden, and the Newton Stewart Museum. The area is particularly popular for its scenic location, its historical interest, and for the good walking, and for the outdoor pursuits potential the area offers.
