Kingswood

Kingswood is one of several hamlets that make up the Parish of Stogumber; this parish comprises the village of Stogumber itself as well as the other hamlets of Ashbeer, Capton, Escott, Higher Vexford, Lower Vexford, Lower Vellow, Vellow and Preston. This is a traditional yet thriving community that is set amidst beautiful scenery in a valley between the Quantock and Brendon Hills. This village and its cluster of hamlets was once a much larger community that made its living from the brewing, weaving and agricultural industries. There were five fulling mills built here between the 13th and 18th centuries to support the cloth making industry that led to prosperity.

There is a village square at the heart of Stogumber with a pub, a shop and the Norman St. Mary's Church with its attractive William Morris style ceiling. Pretty colour-washed houses and thatched roofs give the High Street a truly traditional atmosphere. The Stogumber railway station is here in Kingswood and has been since 1862. The surrounding countryside is breathtakingly beautiful and offers a wealth of opportunity to enjoy outdoor activities, lovely walks and the abundance of flora, faun and wildlife in the area.
