Kingston upon Thames is in the Royal Borough of Kingston upon Thames, within the county of Surrey. An ancient market town that was built at the first crossing point of the Thames, Kingston is where seven Saxon kings are said to have been crowned on a large stone that stands outside the Guildhall, the Coronation Stone. The Domesday Book of 1086 says that there was just a church, five mills, three fisheries, 40 acres of meadow and woodland here; a long way from its current description as one of the major metropolitan centres in the London Plan.
Kingston offers the visitor a wealth of things to do, see and enjoy, including: art galleries, exhibitions and museums, cruises down the river with a choice of services between Kingston, Hampton Court and Richmond throughout the summer months, theatres hosting entertainment and cultural activities, the fantastic Thorpe Park and Chessington World of Adventures, magnificent Hampton Court Palace and a variety of attractions as well as three Royal Parks, numerous historic houses and gardens.
