King's Lynn is a market town and sea port in the county of Norfolk, although in medieval times it was known as Bishop's Lynn. This is because it was taken under the wing of the Bishop of Norwich in the late 11th century. It was one of the earliest examples of the creation of numerous, planned "new towns" that took place up until the 13th century. Eventually, Henry VIII took over the lordship of the town it was renamed King's Lynn. There is still a vibrant, popular market held here every Tuesday and Friday in the ‘Tuesday Market Place’; the market place was used for executions in medieval times. Those to be executed were burned at the stake, most commonly for the crime of witch craft.
The town of King’s Lynn has a community that is well served by a variety of theatres and museums as well as cultural and sporting venues, which have also helped to increase its tourism. King's Lynn and the surrounding area have more than enough historic sites and attractions to keep visitors happy and the annual ‘Festival Too’ that is held on the Tuesday Market Place every summer is a big event in the town’s calendar; attracting well-known performers that have included Midge Ure, Deacon Blue, Suzi Quatro, 10cc, The Human League, Buzzcocks, M People, Atomic Kitten and Beverley Knight.
