The village of Johnstonebridge in Dumfries and Galloway, Scotland is where there was once a bridge built by the landowning family, the Johnstones, across the River Annan. Today it is a stopping point for travellers journeying on the A74(M) road between Moffat and Lockerbie and home to a service station, the Annandale Water Services. Johnstonebridge is in the Annandale strath that is named for its river, the Annan. Most of this area is fertile farmland and the scenery is breathtakingly beautiful as a result.
Visitors come to the area to enjoy the beauty of the natural scenery, the diverse landscapes and equally diverse wildlife, flora and fauna, particularly along the banks of the River Annan. This river runs north-south from Annan head to the north of Moffat and down to Annan on the Solway Firth and this journey is also a long distance walking route from the source of the River Annan to the sea.
