Johnstone is a town in the Scottish council area of Renfrewshire. It is located in the west-central lowlands of Scotland, neighbouring Paisley and Glasgow.
Johnstone was a planned settlement that developed around the house of Easter Cochrane, which became known as Johnstone Castle. It was the Laird, George Houstoun, owner of the house in the 18th century, commissioned the designs for a series of residential streets, which are now part of the town centre. Coal mining and cotton production brought growth to the town, which powered its mills at the nearby Black Cart Water. It is now largely a commuter town, with excellent transport links and close proximity to a number of popular attractions, including the Coats Observatory, Weaver's Cottage, Paisley Museum, and Fossil Grove.
