Inverurie

The town of Inverurie in Aberdeenshire, Scotland sits in the Don Valley at the heart of this region that is home to numerous Neolithic and Bronze Age archaeological sites. Inverurie spreads out across the River Don and the River Ury that have contributed to the agricultural industry of the town. Inverurie has a religious foundation that dates from around the 9^th century with the establishment of the ‘Kirk of Inverurie’ now known as St. Andrew's Parish Church. The town developed and by 1558, it was granted a charter and with the building of the Aberdeenshire Canal linking Port Elphinstone with Aberdeen Harbour in 1806, its future growth was established.

Inverurie offers ample amenities, plenty of shops, eateries and pubs as well as historic sites and attractions. The grand Town Hall here was built in the late 19^th century and at the heart of the town square is the Inverurie War Memorial, amidst the main shopping areas. Inverurie today is a thriving market town that still counts agriculture amongst its main industries, along with commerce, oil and paper manufacture. The past still echoes though in many of the buildings, including the oldest church in Inverurie, St. Andrew's Parish Church that was founded in the 9th century by the Culdee monks on the left bank of the River Don, where it meets the Polnar Burn.
