Invergordon

The coastal town and port of Invergordon is on the majestic northwest coast of Scotland, in Easter Ross within the Ross and Cromarty area of the Highlands and Islands. This is a region of breathtaking contrasts and spectacular landscapes as well as some of the oldest rock formations in Europe that date from the Cambrian and Precambrian age. The maritime heritage of Invergordon is rich, encompassing two World Wars and the town today remains an important centre for oil-rig refurbishment and maintenance as well as a major port of call for cruise liners. One of the best places to uncover some of the history of Invergordon is at the Naval Museum and Heritage Centre on the High Street that opened in 2004. The Centre has an excellent collection of artefacts and changing exhibits along with an archive and library.

Invergordon offers ample amenities along the broad High Street as well as a good choice of eateries, shops and places of interest for visitors. Cultural delights can be enjoyed at the local Arts Centre in the old Town Hall building and the 18-hole golf course at the western end of town offers more than just golf, with its wonderful views of the Cromarty Firth and the mountains to the West. Recently added attractions include the particularly beautiful Natal Garden that is designed to follow the nautical theme of the Cromarty Firth and the Heritage Mural located at the eastern end of the central shopping area. Internationally renowned artists have created the colourful works that tell the stories of the local community and the area.
