Ilkley

The spa town of Ilkley in the county of West Yorkshire lies on the banks of the River Wharfe, surrounded by glorious countryside. This is the town mentioned in the Yorkshire anthem ‘On Ilkla Moor baht'at’ that speaks of the southern slopes of the valley that form Ilkley  Moor; it is written in Yorkshire dialect and the title translates as "On Ilkley Moor without a hat". These moors were once home to prehistoric man, as evidenced by the stone circles and hundreds of rock carvings, including the famous Swastika Stone that remain.

As a spa town, tourism has always been a key industry here and visitors flock to enjoy Ilkley and its surrounding countryside. The town centre’s Victorian architecture, wide streets and floral displays make it a particularly attractive town, with ample independent traders, eateries, traditional pubs and historic sites as well as cultural activities. For walkers and nature lovers, the Ilkley moors offer exceptional access and spectacular views across Wharfedale. With this much nature on the doorstep, outdoor adventure and activities abound.
