The market town of Horsham is situated on the River Arun in the county of West Sussex. Horsham has played a key part in the history of West Sussex for centuries as an important market town and centre of justice as well as an important part of the Sussex iron industry. Horsham was first noted in King Eadred's land charter of 947 and had connections to the sale of horses. The Old Town Hall in Market Square was built around 1648 and this Victorian structure with its Norman facade is still referred to as a 'Market House'.
Horsham’s historic street are home to good shopping as well as the Causeway, considered one of the finest streets in Sussex; with a blend of old buildings, mature trees and the great Horsham Parish Church of St Mary the Virgin. At the southern end of the Causeway is the tranquil Memorial Garden and you will find the Horsham Museum here too; a great place to discover more about the history and heritage of the area. Horsham still has its markets every week in Market Square and Carfax on Saturdays and at the Bishopric on Thursdays.
