The small seaside resort and town of Hornsea is in the county of East Riding in Yorkshire and is probably best known for Hornsea Pottery. The factory is now closed, but the striking contemporary designs are exhibited in the largest display of Hornsea Pottery in the world, at the Hornsea Museum. The Pottery was crafted with renowned artists and designers such as Marion Campbell, John Clappison, Alan Luckham, Martin Hunt and Robin Pavitt. The Museum was established in 1978 and sited in an 18th Century farmhouse and the two adjacent cottages.
Hornsea’s promenade offers the typical delights of a seaside resort, with shops, cafes, fish and chips and a great atmosphere. Another attraction of note is Hornsea Mere; this large lake and bird sanctuary is a popular place for sailing, enjoying wildlife and its natural lake which was created by glacial movement during the Ice Age.
