Hindhead is a village in Surrey, near Guildford and Beacon Hill. Hindhead is the highest village in Surrey, with pleasant views of the surrounding valley. The Devil's Punchbowl is located just outside of the town, and is a site of Special Scientific Interest that forms a natural amphitheatre that is coincidently a very popular local beauty spot.
The village also boasts some significant contributions to literature, as the former home of two renowned authors. The playwright George Bernard Shaw lived in Hindhead at the site that is now St. Edmund's School, as well as Sir Arthur Conan Doyle who lived in the town for ten years at the turn of the 20th century, when he wrote "The Hound of the Baskervilles".
