Herne Bay

The town of Herne Bay in the county of Kent offers visitors a truly traditional seaside experience with two miles of splendid seafront offering colourful beach huts, candyfloss, ice cream parlours, cafés, friendly pubs, fish and chip shops and deck chairs. It was in the early 19th century that Herne Bay became a seaside resort, with the building of a pleasure pier and promenade by a group of London investors; before the record was beaten in 1978, Herne Bay proudly boasted the second-longest pier in the United Kingdom. Herne Bay's seafront is also home to the world's first freestanding, purpose-built clock tower that was built in 1837

Herne Bay is great for those with a passion for outdoor pursuits; rowers, yachtsmen and jet-ski riders are well catered for on Herne Bay's waters. The seafront is pretty, with Victorian architecture, seafront gardens and bandstand that is a venue for summer concerts, other musical events and children's entertainment. Celebrating its heritage, the Herne Bay Carnival is one of East Kent's largest Carnivals and attracts visitors from far and wide. Bands, local and visitor floats, a Carnival Queen and all the colour and atmosphere you expect from a traditional seaside festival.
