Henlow

The village of Henlow in the county of Bedfordshire is mentioned in the Domesday survey of 1086 as being a place with three separate manors; Henlow Warden, Henlow Llanthony and Henlow De Grey. There is an abundance of Manor Farms in the village and there was once a moated manor house here. One of the oldest buildings in Henlow is the Parish church of St. Mary the Virgin, with parts that date back to the 13th century. The original Cricket Pavilion and the Pyghtles recreation ground in Henlow were endowed by the Gribble family who lived here from 1896-1909. By 1961 Henlow Grange had been uninhabited for several years and was sold to become a renowned Health Farm.

Henlow today is a charming village atmosphere, amenities, independent shops, eateries, pubs and historic sites. RAF Henlow is here as it has been since 1918 when it was established for the new Royal Flying Corps. It later housed the School of Aeronautical Engineering and Parachute Testing Unit and finally, RAF Henlow  became an RAF Officer Cadet Training Unit.
