Hebburn is a relatively small town on the River Tyne, in North East England, located between the towns of Jarrow and Bill Quay. The name of the town is believed to derive from the Anglo-Saxon terms, heah meaning "high", and byrgen meaning a "burial mound". The earliest record of Hebburn from the 8th century describes it as a settlement of fishermen's huts that had been burned in the Viking raids. This is a more rural and traditional part of a very beautiful county, offering a quiet but comfortable place from which to explore.
County Durham features many historical landmarks, including substantial remains from the Norman period, such as portions of Durham Cathedral the castle, as well as in several parish churches throughout the county. There are a large number of castles in the County Durham, along with numerous manor houses and other sites of historical interest.
