Heanor is a conveniently situated and popular town in the Amber Valley district of Derbyshire, in the East Midlands of England, near the county town, Derby. It is characterised, like much of the area, by the impact of the River Amber and its valley, which was rich in industry due to the abundance of lead and limestone in the county. The local area became a hot spot for water mills and canal ways, which now serve as scenic walking routes and waterways for the tourist industry.
Popular attractions in the area include theme parks such as Alton Towers and Gullivers; Conkers and Rosliston Forestry, in the National Forest; stately homes, such as the renowned Chatsworth House and Gardens, and Hardwick Hall; anf the various industrial heritage sites such as the Derwent Valley Mills, and the caverns of the beautiful Dove Valley.
