Hawick is a town in the Scottish Borders and within the boundaries of the historic Scottish council area of Roxburghshire. It is one of the farthest towns from the sea in Scotland, and is best-known for its annual Common Riding event. It is situated in an attractive location at the heart of Teviotdale and is characterised by a predominance of distinctive sandstone buildings. The town offers good amenities, excellent shopping prospects, and a choice of comfortable holiday accommodation. It lacks a train station, but there is a regular bus service that provides links to the nearest station at Carlisle, which is just over the border in England.
