Haverthwaite

Haverthwaite is a small village in the Furness district of Cumbria, at the boundary of the Lake District National Park, near Ulverston and at the southern end of Windermere. The village was originally a Viking settlement, although there may have been a settlement there since prehistory, and so is full of character and old fashioned country cottages, many of which provide guest accommodation.

Haverthwaite is the starting point of the preserved Lakeside & Haverthwaite Railway, which is a popular tourist attraction that provides links from the village to Lake Windermere. Other popular local attractions include Holker Hall and Gardens, the Laurel & Hardy Museum, Cartmel Racecourse, Levens Hall, Sizergh Castle, and of course, the Windermere Steamboats and Museum, to name only a few.
