Hartlepool

The town and port of Hartlepool is located on Teeside in the ceremonial county of County Durham. Founded in the 7th century AD, Hartlepool was a village that grew with the development of its harbour. With industrialisation and the growing shipbuilding industry in the late 19th century, Hartlepool was to become a target for the German Navy at the beginning of the First World War. A bombardment of 1150 shells on 16 December 1914 resulted in the death of 117 people.

Today though, Hartlepool is a delightful place to add to your itinerary. The stunning new multi-million pound Marina complex is shaping up to become a top attraction and the wonderful old town wears its 1,000 years of history with pride. Add to this, miles of golden sands and shimmering sea and you have found a great place to be for the seaside, the friendly locals, the attractions and the amenities.
