Hartfield

Hartfield is the main village of a civil parish of the same name in East Sussex, England. Other settlements within the parish include Colemans Hatch, Hammerwood and Holtye, They are situated on the northern edge of Ashdown Forest, which is a Site of Special Scientific Interest comprising of semi-natural woodland, heath and bog.

Cotchford Farm, in Hartfield was the home of A.A. Milne, the author of the Winnie the Pooh books, many of which are set in the area. The house was later owned by The Rolling Stones guitarist, Brian Jones. The village is also home to Hammerwood Park, which is a Grade I listed 18th century country house located to the south of the village. It was one of the early works of architect Benjamin Latrobe, who designed United States Capitol in Washington D.C. Led Zeppelin owned it for a time but it is now restored and open to the public in season.

The village of Hartfield neighbours Tunbridge Wells. It is a narrow, and very traditional village, with three public houses and a selection of shops, one of which is a gift shop dedicated to Winnie the Pooh memorabilia.
