Harlech

The seaside resort town of Harlech in Gwynedd, Wales is within the Snowdonia National Park, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty popular with walkers, climbers and outdoor enthusiasts. Harlech offers magnificent vistas as it over-looks Tremadog Bay and to the east, the rocky, heather-clad Rhinogydd range of mountains. The town is well known for the magnificent Harlech Castle that was begun in 1283 by Edward I and later captured by Owain Glyndŵr before becoming the stronghold of Henry Tudor. Spectacularly sited Harlech Castle blends perfectly with the rock on which it is perched and looks out over Snowdonia as one of the most formidable of Edward’s 'iron ring' of fortresses designed to contain the Welsh. The castle was originally by the sea but time and geological processes have changed the shape of the coastline and the castle on is now about half a mile inland.

Harlech offers ample amenities, shops, eateries and pubs as well as historic sites and nearby visitor and cultural attractions. The town has two distinct areas that are linked by a steep and winding road called Twtil. Traditional Welsh architecture, the steep winding streets, wonderful natural setting and Harlech beach backed by sand dunes make this a wonderful destination. Outdoor activities are well catered for in the area that is perfect for anglers, walkers and perhaps most of all, golfers as Harlech is home to the famous Royal St. David's Golf Club.
