Haigh

With picturesque views towards Winter Hill and the West Pennine Moors, Haigh is one of a number of small villages in Greater Manchester that developed around the coal mining industry and were celebrated for the now exhausted, "Cannel Coal". The Leeds and Liverpool Canal winds through Haigh near the River Douglas as a result of this mining heritage and is a popular draw for holiday-makers wishing to explore the area by barge.

Another very pleasant attraction is the woodland and grounds of the 250 acre Haigh Country Park. The Hall itself commands an excellent panorama of the surrounding Douglas Valley and of the Welsh hills beyond it. The present Haigh Hall was built between in the mid 19th century on the site of the ancient Haigh Manor.
