Hackney

Hackney is a borough in London, the capital city of England, which boasts over 1,300 listed buildings, including the Grade II listed Hackney Empire, Tudor Sutton House, and the Grade I listed medieval St Augustine's Tower. There are 25 conservation areas in Hackney including several parks and open spaces, and sites of particular industrial heritage.

This is a vibrant community with a lively arts scene, particularly on Hoxton Square and Shoreditch, which offer a large concentration of clubs, bars, shops and restaurants, many of which host live entertainment from up and coming, and well-established local performers. The Hackney Town Hall Square is marketed as a 'creative quarter', featuring a new Library, Technology and Learning Centre, the Hackney Museum and the refurbished exhibition of the Hackney Empire. The south of Hackney is characterised by a high proportion of conserved terraced Victorian and Edwardian housing, while to the east is the open expanse of the Hackney Marshes.
