Gunnislake

The village of Gunnislake in the scenic county of Cornwall is located in the beautiful Tamar Valley, with an old bridge dating from 1520 that crosses the River Tamar. The bridge was built by Sir Piers Edgecumbe and it was an important crossing point until the one at Saltash was developed. The prosperity of the village came from mining and the site of the ‘Old Gunnislake Mine’ was famed for the incredible diversity of its minerals. Mining is evident in the heritage here and is commemorated with an interesting statue of a miner sitting on a bench.  During the Victorian era, Gunnislake experienced the peak period of mining with a huge increase in population and development.

This area is visited now by those who enjoy the picturesque views, lovely walks and abundance of diverse flora, fauna and wildlife as well as the historic and cultural attractions. Gunnislake has ample amenities and shops as well as eateries and pubs and a fabulous annual event; the Gunnislake Festival sees colourful celebrations last for over a week.
